What is HTML5?

HTML5 is the next generation of HTML, replacing HTML 4 and XHTML 1.1. HTML5 provides new features that are necessary for Rich Internet Applications(RIA). It also standardizes many features of the web platform that web developers have been using for years.

What's wrong with HTML4?

Nothing. Well, something. This HTML page is written in HTML4 and is valid. But we are going to improve it by making it more semantic. We will see.
